The next step in Mercedes-Benz style evolution

Exceptional body strength has been achieved through a technique called friction stir welding, which senior Motor Trend writer Jonny Lieberman describes as “laying two pieces of metal next to or on top of each other and going at them with a tool spinning so fast it melts the alloy, joining the pieces together.” Compared with the SL550, the aluminum body of the 2013 SL-Class saves 275 pounds in weight while improving upon structural integrity. The brand new roadster for Mercedes-Benz is a fantastic vehicle. It weight over 3,900 pounds though.



Still a powerful automobile



The 4.6-liter V8 motor in the new SL-Class is very powerful. It is rated at 516 lb-ft of torque and 429 hp. Compared to the previous SL55 model at 382 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque, that is a huge increase. Conservatively, the new SL-Class will move from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. The brand new Benz is kept very agile with the brand new Agility Control Suspen-sion. Reports show that gas mileage will be very good because of the ECO start/stop technology that will be included in the seven-speed transmission.




Expect technology



Cross-hair HVAC vents, a gear-shift knob, metallic gauges and wealthy wood and leather inside surfaces make the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class an auto to behold. A retractable magnesium-alloy top also gives drivers the open-air option. Anticipate FrontBass stereo speakers to be involved in the automobile.
